Saha praises new team-mate Fletcher's impressive start at Sunderland

After the Scot notched two goals on his debut for the Black Cats, the fellow new striker believes the £12 million signing will only continue to improve for his new side

Sunderland striker Louis Saha has praised new team-mate Steven Fletcher’s impressive start to his career at the Stadium of Light.

16/1 Sunderland are 16/1 with PaddyPower to win the League Cup

The striker notched a double on his Black Cats debut in the 2-2 against Swansea City, and the Frenchman is confident Fletcher will only improve.

“I feel respect for [Steven],” Saha told the club’s official website.

“I am not surprised at all [with his start]. This is just Steven’s first few games and I think we can expect even more from him.

“That is a good prospect. I don’t think this is the last time we will be talking about him.”

Saha replaced the former Wolves man mid-way through the second half and was part of the incident which was Swansea defender Chico Flores handed a red card when the defender was deemed to catch the former Tottenham man on the side of his head.

“I don’t think he was near the ball and it was a really strange challenge,” Saha added.

“If I had had the chance to keep running I could have had a good chance to score or do something.

“It was definitely a red card.”
