Spearing joins Bolton on season-long loan deal

The 23-year-old midfielder was initially linked with a permanent move to the Trotters, but hopes to fight for a place in Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool team upon his return
Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has joined Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan deal.

The 23-year-old has struggled to secure a first-team berth following the arrival of new manager Brendan Rodgers and midfield competition in the form of Nuri Sahin and Joe Allen.

The Wirral-born battler had been linked with a permanent move to the Trotters but is now set for a temporary spell away in order to gain experience.

"Nothing is signed just yet but I had my medical last night and I should be signing today," he told Sky Sports News prior to the move being confirmed by Liverpool's official website.

"It's just for six months at the moment but it may extended to a year-long deal. We're just going to have a chat now over at Bolton to see what we can finalise.

"The players that have come in are all top-class players and being at a club like Liverpool, there's going to be competition for places.

"I had a good chat with Brendan [Rodgers] and we both sat down and said that I think that it's time for me to go and get more experience, get more games at Bolton and it's something that I'm really looking forward to doing."
