El Ahmadi: Aston Villa must show character

The Moroccan midfielder believes that the team should forget about their comprehensive 3-1 home defeat by Everton on Saturday and concentrate on bouncing back quickly
Aston Villa midfielder Karim El Ahmadi has called for his team-mates to show "character" as they look to bounce back from a disappointing start to the season.

The Villans suffered an opening-day defeat to West Ham before losing to Everton 3-0 at Villa Park on Saturday and are currently bottom of the Premier League.

But the 27-year-old summer signing from Feyenoord has rallied his new team-mates to forget about previous results as they prepare to face Tranmere in the League Cup.

El Ahmadi told the club's official website: "We have to prepare quick because on Tuesday we have another game and we have to win.

"We have to show some character as a team and as players. We are professionals and we have to stand up."

Despite the 3-1 scoreline against the Toffees, the midfielder went on to insist that there were positives to take from defeat for Paul Lambert's men.

"I think in the second half we worked hard and tried to do something, especially with 10 men," he continued.

"Everton were good but we can also say to ourselves that we weren't sharp at the beginning. At 3-0 the game is more or less over but we still tried to score some goals in the second half.

"We can be disappointed but we have to go forward and think about the next game."
