Manchester City set to miss out on transfer target Jovetic

Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Della Vale hints that a potential new striker’s surname begins with a ‘B’, with Dimitar Berbatov, Nicklas Bendtner and Marco Borriello all touted

Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Della Valle has confirmed that Stevan Jovetic will 'definitely' stay this summer, which represents a blow for Manchester City. exclusively revealed earlier in August that City were keen on signing the 22-year-old attacker for around €30 million [£23.7m], while Juventus' interest has been known for over a month.

The latest setback follows several this summer for Roberto Mancini, who has already missed out on Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi and Manchester United-bound striker Robin van Persie.

Della Valle reiterated the Serie A club's desire to keep the Montenegro international, adding that the former Partizan forward would have to wait until the end of the season to open contract talks.

"Jovetic will definitely stay here," he told La Gazzetto dello Sport. "I told him that in nine months we sit down and see what to do with his future.

"I think the reception that the city has given him has convinced him to stay, but even if he did, he knows that this year is going to Florence."

Della Valle also hinted that Fiorentina could complete the signing of a new striker in the final week of the transfer window.

By hinting that the target's surname begins with a 'B', he narrowed the possibilities down to the likes of Manchester United outcast Dimitar Berbatov, unwanted Arsenal attacker Nicklas Bendtner and surplus Roma striker Marco Borriello.

"This week we will complete the rose," he continued cryptically. "There will be an important engagement. Does the name start with the letter B? Yes, it may do."
