Sir Alex Ferguson expecting Manchester United reaction against Fulham

The Red Devils slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Everton in their opening game of the Premier League season on Monday night but have a chance to get their first points at the weekend
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he expects his side to bounce back from defeat to Everton when they face Fulham on Saturday.

The Red Devils had not lost an opening game since 2004 but were outmuscled by a brilliant Toffees side at Goodison Park on Monday.

And, despite the Scot hailing the Cottagers' recent improvement, he has called for his squad to make a statement with their first fixture at Old Trafford.

"I went to see Fulham last Saturday and they played very well," Ferguson told reporters.

"It's a football club that's grown tremendously since Roy [Hodgson] got them to the [2010] Europa League final.

"The place is buzzing with a full house every week and there's a good atmosphere around the place.

"They have a lot of experience in their team. It won't be an easy game, but we're at home and we need to make an impact quickly after losing on Monday night, and we expect that."

United already find themselves three points behind rivals Manchester City, who are beginning their defence of the Premier League title.
