thumbnail Hello,

Hoops boss Mark Hughes confirms that it is likely the midfielder will be leaving the club for this season, but denies a deal has been done with French side Marseille

Former QPR captain Joey Barton looks set to go out on loan this season, as manager Mark Hughes confirms he has held talks with the player.

Barton will miss the first 12 games of the season after his final-day red card against Manchester City in May.

He has spent part of pre-season at League 2 club, Fleetwood Town and was this week stripped of his No.17 squad number at Loftus Road.

Reports have surfaced about a possible move to France for Barton with Ligue 1 side Marseille. But Hughes was quick to deny the rumours.

"There has been interest shown by Marseille but there has been no offer made. There has been a few e-mails sent back and forth but nothing concrete yet," He said.

"We hope there might be an opportunity for him to go to another club on loan but that has not developed as yet but may well do in the next few days."

Hughes was also asked about the possibility of bringing in former Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa, who is currently out of contract.

Hughes said: "We're having discussions with him and his advisors. We think we're very close to bringing him in."

If a deal was to be confirmed for Bosingwa, he would become the eighth signing of the summer for the Hoops, as they look to strengthen their side for the coming season.
