MK Dons 'not allowed' to sign Tottenham misfit Bentley, jokes boss Robinson

Despite being linked with the out-of-favour former England international, the Dons boss has revealed that his chairman has vetoed swoop - but expects him to find a club soon

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson has ruled out a move for Tottenham midfielder David Bentley.

The 27-year-old has failed to secure a first-team berth at White Hart Lane since a big-money move from Blackburn, but has featured fairly prominently during pre-season under new boss Andre Villas-Boas.

But, even with the chance of a fresh start under the Portuguese, it looks like the former England international is set for the exit door with MK Dons, an interested party in January, reportedly keen again.

However, Robinson has told talkSPORT that a move is unlikely, saying: “I'd love to take Bents, but the chairman says I'm not allowed.

“David Bentley is a good friend of mine, he's someone I know well from Blackburn and we have the same agent.

"It's a deal I'd love to try and make happen but David Bentley has got tremendous quality and I'd be very, very surprised to see him playing outside of the Premier League."
