thumbnail Hello,

Following Santi Cazorla's switch to Arsenal on Tuesday, have taken a look back at the deals which have also been completed thus far and ask our readers to pick the best

In a summer of unprecedented spending at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal confirmed the signing of Santi Cazorla from Malaga on Tuesday.

The Spanish winger joins the likes of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud as another new arrival in north London – and a vast selection of new talent in the Premier League. But is he the most impressive acquisition of the summer so far?’s Spanish football writer Ben Hayward certainly thinks so.

However, how about names such as Eden Hazard or Shinji Kagawa?

The £32 million Chelsea newboy is, arguably, the most exciting young talent in Europe after three seasons of wing wizardry in Ligue 1 for Lille – capped off with a remarkable return of 20 goals and 15 assists in 38 league appearances last season.

And Kagawa is fairly adept at that attacking lark too. The former Dortmund player was part of a devastating front three in Germany, and managed to notch 17 goals from a predominantly wide position.

And what about those previously mentioned new Arsenal strikers? Podolski has always impressed on the international stage with Germany – maintaining a record of just under one goal every two games for the duration of his eight-year involvement – but has struggled on a domestic level in the past.

While his two spells at Koln have been fairly prolific with 86 goals in 181 appearances, his three-year spell at Bayern Munich was far less impressive. Could he again struggle at a big club?

Giroud could be the same. Despite thoroughly impressing for Montpellier on course to a Ligue 1 title, his move to Arsenal represents a big step up.

However, either way their presence is needed if wantaway striker Robin van Persie decides to find pastures new.

Liverpool’s sole signing thus far has also been a striker – Roma’s Fabio Borini. The youngster is familiar with new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers due to his time in charge of Chelsea’s reserve team and Swansea City.

Despite being yet to really shine in his short career, Borini could fit the Rodgers mould better than Andy Carroll and could prove a shrewd move with Luis Suarez playing off him.

And, finally, we get to Tottenham’s two new signings. Both highly rated, both young - can both shine?

Jan Vertonghen is an astute signing at less than £10m for Spurs, especially with the retirement of club legend Ledley King and the rumoured departures of fellow centre-backs William Gallas and possibly Sebastien Bassong.

And Gylfi Sigurdsson is another cheap deal. So impressive during his short spell on loan at Swansea that both Liverpool and Spurs went in for him – with the Iceland international ending up opting for the latter.

With the north London club fairly reliant on both Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart in recent seasons to provide goals from midfield, the 22-year-old is another key outlet to exploit.

So, what do you think? Is Cazorla the best signing of the summer so far? Or will another player prove a more shrewd move? You might even have another option not listed here. Let us know by voting in our poll, leaving a comment below and getting involved with the debate on Twitter and Facebook.
