Pardew challenges Ben Arfa to prove his worth for France

The Magpies boss claims the 25-year-old can force his way back into the Les Bleus fold if he produces his best form for the Premier League club after a summer of turmoil

Alan Pardew has told Hatem Ben Arfa to prove his worth to the France squad by showing his ability for Newcastle United.

The attacker was one of four players summoned by the French FA after separate incidents throughout a tumultuous campaign for Les Bleus, along with Samir Nasri, Yann M’Villa and Jeremy Menez.

Blanc has since left the France set up, with Didier Deschamps his replacement and Pardew, despite claiming the Moroccan-born Frenchman is in good spirits, has challenged Ben Arfa to perform to his best and prove he is deserving of a place in the national side.

"He's been very smiley still," Pardew told The Chronicle.

"These things can happen at international level.

"I don't think Hatem was too impressed with the experience he had there. Good - now show them how good you are with Newcastle."

Samir Nasri, Yann M’Vila, Jeremy Menez and Ben Arfa were all punished for their various actions in Poland and Ukraine.

Nasri insulted a journalist, Menez clashed with team-mate Hugo Lloris, M’Vila reacted poorly to his substitution against Spain and the Newcastle winger was involved in a bust up with coach Laurent Blanc.

And Ben Arfa has history with the new France head coach, with the pair unable to see eye-to-eye on occasion while at Marseille together.
