The Dutch centre-back has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Aston Villa and his new manager cannot wait to see the departing Feyenoord star in action
The 27-year-old has completed the formalities of a three-year deal which ties him to Premier League club until the end of the 2014-15 campaign.
Vlaar joins his former team-mate Karim El Ahmadi as a new signing at Villa Park, while Brett Holman is another player to have arrived the midlands from the Eredivisie this summer.
"Ron is a really good defender – he is a proper player," enthused Lambert as he spoke to the club’s official website.
"He has a wealth of experience for both Netherlands and a big football club in Feyenoord, so I'm delighted we have got him here to Villa. He'll bring something to the club, there is no doubt about it."
Lambert is set to begin his first season in charge of Villa after joining from Norwich City and indicated that he would be basing his team around the Dutchman's solidity once the new campaign gets under way.
"I like the way the guy wants to do well,” he added of Vlaar. “He is hungry and he wants to succeed. He is also a really good, strong defender and hopefully we will get the benefit of him in our team.
"Certainly, I have no worries about his career so far. He's captained Feyenoord, who finished second last season in the Eredivisie to qualify for the Champions League, he's been in the Dutch international set-up and was part of Euro 2012.”
Vlaar joins the club on the day that they allowed defender James Collins to complete his move back to West Ham United, the club from whom Villa had initially signed the Welshman.
