Sir Alex Ferguson's side have set a £12 million limit on the Everton left-back, but is he the right player to help bring the title back to Old Trafford this season?
After Goal.com brought you the exclusive news that Manchester United are preparing a move for Leighton Baines - we're asking you whether the Everton left-back is the right man for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
United see Baines as a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra but are unwilling to spend over £12 million on a player who will command a weekly wage of £80,000.
The 27-year-old was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year following an outstanding 2011-12 campaign with David Moyes' side and would provide immediate competition for Evra, who turned 31 in May.
Meanwhile, United have also seen a £27m bid for Sao Paulo starlet Lucas Moura rejected this summer, while the Brazilian club's director, Adalberto Baptista, has claimed that the move is off.
"There's no negotiations going on. Everybody knows that we got an offer for him, and rejected it. It's also known that Lucas doesn't want to leave. The only person keeping the expectations alive is his agent," Baptista told ESPN Brasil.
"The decision is final. There will always be great team going after great players. This mismatch between the European and Brazilian transfer window makes it hard for national clubs, and we have to deal with that."
