Tottenham have made a bid to sign Roma striker Marco Borriello on a season-long loan, Goal.com has learned.
Spurs face competition from Juventus, Genoa, Galatasaray and Werder Bremen in their attempt to land the 30-year-old, which is also complicated by the Giallorossi's pursuit of chief summer target Mattia Destro.
It is understood that Borriello has also been offered in part-exchange by Roma to Genoa for Destro, one of the rising stars of Italian football.

The Italian capital club are not asking for a loan fee for the striker as they attempt to trim their wage bill following years of overspending.
The ex-AC Milan forward, who has three years to run on an £80,000-a-week contract, is highly regarded by Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas because of his physical qualities and capability to lead the front line.
Tottenham are attempting to refurbish their forward options this summer, with the club prepared to listen to offers for Jermain Defoe. They are also closing in on a £5 million permanent move for Emmanuel Adebayor, who spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane.
Meanwhile, Roma have offered a deal worth £11.7m [€15m] for Destro, whose contract is co-owned by Genoa and his current club Siena.
The deal on the table is for the Giallorossi to pay for Destro in three instalments, with £3.9m [€5m] to be paid in the first year of the contract, a further £5.47m [€7m] in the second year with 19-year-old winger Gianmario Piscitella included as the third part of the transfer on loan.
Juventus are also in the running to sign Destro and have offered a lucrative package to capture the 20-year-old, who was not part of Italy’s Euro 2012 squad but is regarded in his homeland as a future regular for the national team.
The Italian champions are interested in bringing Borriello back to Turin but only on a temporary basis, and would require Roma to provide a portion of his salary if he were to re-join Antonio Conte's team on loan.
New Roma coach Zdenek Zeman identified Destro and central midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis as his two principal targets when he replaced Luis Enrique earlier this summer.
After landing Panagiotis last week, club chiefs have been trying to secure the striker's deal and are hopeful that Genoa’s reluctance to sell to Turin rivals Juventus puts them in the driving seat to complete the forward’s signing.
