The striker, who has secured an £11 million move from Roma, is set to link up with the Northern Irishman for the third time in his career at Anfield

New Liverpool signing Fabio Borini has admitted that the opportunity to work with Brendan Rodgers for a third time played a big part in his move to Anfield.

The 21-year-old, who signed from Roma for a fee believed to be in the region of £11 million on Friday, has already played in the Chelsea reserves and at Swansea City under Rodgers.

And the striker has insisted that Rodgers' friendship and philosophy convinced him to become the 39-year-old's first signing on Merseyside.

He told the club's official website: “He [Rodgers] was very important. I wouldn't say it was the key, but most of it came from him.

“Even during last season, I spoke with him a lot. I'd text him and ask if he was okay and congratulated him on the results he got with Swansea.

“First of all it is a relationship of friendship and afterwards it is a working one. That is more important than anything.

“I used to play 4-3-3 with him and he is very good to play football for. It is great to play football for him because you can have fun and you can get results.

“I could see at Swansea the people loved him because the football was attractive. People like to see football (played) like this.”

The Bologna-born forward also expressed his delight at returning to England after a season-long spell in Serie A in which he scored nine goals in 20 starts for the Giallorossi.

“It feels really good - and to be back in England as well,” he added.
BACKING BRENDAN?

“I knew sooner or later I would be back. Being back with Liverpool is even better because I can show the people what I can do.

“It's [Liverpool] a top club that has won a lot of trophies in the past - and will do so in the future we hope as well.

“I've got the trust of the manager and the club, which for me is very nice and I'm proud to be here.”

Borini, who will wear the number 29 shirt, is likely to link up with Luis Suarez in Rodgers’ starting XI and the Italian expressed excitement over their potential partnership.

When asked if he was looking forward to playing with the ex-Ajax striker, Borini said: “A lot because he is maybe another player who is similar to me because he works very hard in every game.

“I've watched a few games, and all of Europe wants him. Every player wants to play with him, so it will be a pleasure."
