With the Belgium international officially completing a move to Tottenham, Andre Villas-Boas will hope to create a solid partnership in defence but who should join the 25-year-old?
The defender, who was signed from Ajax, is the Portuguese coach's second summer signing following the capture of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim.
Villas-Boas will now look for someone to partner his new signing in the centre of defence, but who should he pick?
Ledley King is rumoured to be considering retirement and his futire is still to be decided, while Sebastien Bassong and William Gallas are both reported to be leaving the club and may not be at White Hart Lane for the new season.

Younes Kaboul made the most appearances last season out of any other of the centre-backs, putting in some outstanding performances, and would seem to be the favourite.
Michael Dawson is another possible choice but, with injury plaguing the defender for most of last season, it remains to be seen whether the 28-year-old has fully recovered.
20-year-old Steven Caulker has set his sights on a first-team spot after signing a new deal and will hope to make a strong case to the new manager after a good season on loan at Swansea City.
