Arsenal and France legend Robert Pires has urged Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy to move to the Premier League amid reported interest from Newcastle.
Debuchy, who starred for France at Euro 2012 this summer, has long been linked with a move to the Magpies and was recently the subject of a £4 million bid from the Tyneside outfit.
And Pires, who enjoyed a trophy-laden six-year spell in the English top flight with the Gunners, says the move would be a good one for his compatriot.
"He has a game which really suits the Premier League with his speed. He also has such an attacking game, but is very aggressive in defence", Pires told Le 10 Sport.
"If I have any advice to give him, it would be to try his luck in England."
The 38-year-old also insisted that Newcastle would be the best destination for the defender due to the large French contingent currently at the club.
"It does not really surprise me that English clubs are interested in him. Newcastle would be a very good club for him because he would find his friends [Yohan] Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa," he continued.
"Also, they are one of the top English clubs, with a history and a beautiful stadium. For him and the rest of his career, they would be a nice stepping stone."
