Hamburg sporting director admits Van der Vaart interest

Frank Arnesen has revealed that the Bundesliga outfit are keen to bring the Dutchman back to the club but insisted there must be a "signal" from the player
Hamburg sporting director Frank Arnesen has admitted any potential deal for Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart would need to be instigated by the player.

Van der Vaart spent three years with the Bundesliga outfit before an unsuccessful spell with Real Madrid led to his move to north London.

And, though Arnesen has revealed that the German side would be open to the 29-year-old returning, he insists that the player must show he would want to leave Tottenham.

"I can only say that he is a great player and one that knows Hamburg very well," Arnesen told Welt.

"I don't want to talk about it too much because Van der Vaart has a contract at Tottenham Hotspur until 2015. If I get a signal from his end that there might be something, things will be different.

"At the moment it is not practical. He is on holiday after the European Championship. In the next few weeks we will see what happens."
