The Frenchman shone in his debut season in England and has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but is content to stay at Newcastle United and play in the Europa League

Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has revealed he is aware of speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United but is happy to remain at St James’ Park.

The 26-year-old joined the Magpies last summer from Lille and excelled in the heart of Alan Pardew’s side and despite talk of a switch to Old Trafford, Cabaye is remaining focused on performing for Newcastle next season.

"There are rumours," he told France Football. "I am following it a little. But I have four years remaining on my contract with Newcastle.

"Today I don't want to know anything. That is what agents are for."

The Magpies finished fifth in the Premier League last season guaranteeing Europa League football and Cabaye has talked up his team’s supporters.

He added: "At Newcastle we will play in the Europa League. The atmosphere is already huge at St James Park with us in the Premier League and it seems stronger now we're in Europe."

The France international also revealed it took him a while to adapt to life in England, and insists he believed the Magpies would be successful when he moved from Lille last summer.

He added: "When I came to England, I had to start again from scratch. There, they hardly knew me.

"Some players did not even know I was a French champion [with Lille]. So I questioned myself, getting to the heart of the matter as quickly as possible.

"At Newcastle, I had to go and get it. The fight has been permanent. Security would have been remaining at Lille but at that moment I didn't think about it. I went to Newcastle to have success."
