The Anfield midfielder, who was ignored by England and former club manager Roy Hodgson for Euro 2012, looks set to remain on Merseyside next season after year on looan in France

Lille boss Rudi Garcia has revealed Joe Cole is set to remain a Liverpool player next season.

The former Chelsea midfielder, 30, spent last season on loan in Ligue 1 with the 2010-11 French champions.

However, despite claims from the coach that Cole would be welcomed back to Stade Lille-Metropole, Garcia has claimed that new Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers plans to keep the former England international.

"Joe Cole will stay at Liverpool," Garcia revealed to Canal+. "The new staff has decided to keep him.

"We will keep very good memories of the player but also of the man."

Cole joined Liverpool from Stamford Bridge two years ago on a free transfer.

The Reds attacker was unable to secure a regular place in the team though, and made 42 appearances for Lille on loan last season.
