thumbnail Hello,

The Spanish goalkeeper has made 175 appearances for the Gunners since arriving from Celta Vigo in 2004 and joins six others on their way out of the Emirates Stadium

Arsenal have confirmed that seven players, including Manuel Almunia, will be released when their contracts expire on June 30.

Five professionals; Manuel Almunia, Gavin Hoyte, Rhys Murphy, George Brislen-Hall and Sean McDermott are all leaving, while youth-team members Jeffrey Monakana and James Campbell have also not been offered new deals.

Out of the group of players only Almunia and Hoyte ever made competitive first-team appearances, with the Spanish goalkeeper playing 175 times for the club.

The Osasuna youth product arrived at the Gunners in 2004, moving from Celta Vigo for an undisclosed fee following an impressive loan spell at Albacete.

While in London, Almunia picked up 70 clean sheets and appeared in the 2006 Champions League final defeat to Barcelona, coming on in the first-half after Jens Lehamann picked up a straight red card.

Hoyte made just the four appearances for the senior side, his first coming in a League Cup win over Sheffield United 2008 and has spent time on-loan at Watford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Lincoln City and AFC Wimbledon.

In a statement on their official website, Arsenal briefly thanked the players for their efforts while at the club.

It read: “Everyone at Arsenal would like to take this opportunity to thank Manuel, George, Gavin, Sean, Rhys, James and Jeffrey for their contribution towards the Club and wish them well in their future careers.”
