Both the public and expert Best Premier League XIs were named last night, with Manchester United players dominating the selections.
Current Red Devils stars Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs made the cut in both selections, as did former goalkeeping great Peter Schmeichel, Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and ex-defender Gary Neville.
Elsewhere, record goalscorers Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry were selected for both sides, as were Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole and former Arsenal stalwart Tony Adams.
Experts XI: Schmeichel; G Neville, Adams, Ferdinand, A Cole; Ronaldo, Roy Keane, Scholes, Giggs; Shearer, Henry.
Public XI: Schmeichel; G Neville, Adams, Vidic, A Cole; Ronaldo, Gerrard, Scholes, Giggs; Shearer, Henry.
A total of 300,000 fans from around the world and an 11-strong panel of industry experts were asked to name their greatest ever selection as part of the Premier League’s 20 Seasons Awards, and Red Devils legends past and present formed the majority of both line-ups.
Nine players made it into both fantasy selection, with central midfield and central defence the only positions of disparity between the two.
The public preferred Steven Gerrard in midfield and current United skipper Nemanja Vidic in defence, with the experts opting for Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand instead.
All told, the supporters selected six Old Trafford greats for their side, with the industry panel naming seven of Sir Alex Ferguson’s players past and present.
Ryan Giggs – who was named the Premier League’s Best Ever Player at the ceremony on Monday – received the highest number of votes of any player in either selection.
