thumbnail Hello,

The 25 year-old has implored his team-mates to forget about finishing in the top four after the side's defeat to Newcastle and instead concentrate on landing some silverware

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has stated that the club must forget about the league this season now and instead focus all of their efforts on emerging victorious in both their Champions League and FA Cup final fixtures.

Roberto Di Matteo's side received a hammer blow to their hopes of securing a top-four spot after they were beaten 2-0 at home by rivals Newcastle and Mikel believes it is time for the club to reassess its top priorities.

"The top four has gone and now the only chance we have to qualify for the Champions League is to win the final in Munich," Mikel told reporters.

"That is what everyone at Chelsea wants, the players, supporters and the club. We must concentrate on that.

"But first we have to make sure we win the FA Cup final on Saturday. We can’t let that opportunity pass."

Chelsea have been in superb form recently, but were way below their best during the defeat to Alan Pardew's side in midweek, and Mikel has urged his team-mates to cast the memories of that game to the backs of their minds as they continue their pursuit of silverware.

"We have been doing really well lately but this was one game where we were below par. We didn’t create enough chances," he continued

"But we have to forget about this game because we have a big final coming up at Wembley.

"The manager has been making changes for quite a few of our recent games and before Wednesday it had
been going well for us.

"Against Newcastle it was one of those days. When we played Barcelona last week they had a lot of the ball but couldn’t score. That is the way it goes sometimes.

"Now we have to go back to training and put things right against Liverpool."
