thumbnail Hello,

Fresh from a hat-trick against QPR, the 28-year-old is looking to keep up the momentum as the club head into five crucial days that could define their campaign as a whole

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has urged the club to continue their fine form heading into a week where good showings in the Premier League against Newcastle and in the FA Cup final against Liverpool can define their season.

The Spanish international struck a superb hat-trick, his first for the club, against rivals QPR on Sunday, following his last-gasp goal against Barcelona to cement his side’s progression to the Champions League final.

But with qualification to next season’s competition not secured following a largely disappointing league campaign, the striker is aware that three points against Alan Pardew’s side on Wednesday and a victory on Saturday at Wembley would go a long way to signalling a successful season.

TORRES ON TARGET?

"Two finals and a massive game against Newcastle in three days," Torres told the BBC. "We need to win."

The FA Cup represents Torres' first opportunity to win a piece of silverware since his £50 million move from Liverpool in January 2010, but the forward has banished all thoughts of sentiment towards his former side and is confident of a positive result.

"We will be closer to reaching the top four and, of course, if we win this game, we will approach the game against Liverpool in the FA Cup final with more motivation,” he added. "So, it can be a great week."
