'Maybe I am the only man in football who trusts Balotelli' - Manchester City boss Mancini

The Italian boss says the striker has apologised for the red card he picked up against Arsenal and has been training well ahead of the crucial derby with United on Monday night

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini admits he may be the only person left in football who still trusts Mario Balotelli.

The City striker followed up a string of controversies this season by receiving a three-match suspension after being sent off against Arsenal three weeks ago.

Mancini criticised his compatriot after that game and even called for the FA to look at further disciplining his player for a challenge that went unpunished on Alex Song earlier in the match.

However, ahead of Monday's crucial top-of-the-table derby with rivals Manchester United, Mancini has insisted he can still rely on Balotelli.

20/1 Mario Balotelli is 20/1 with Paddy Power to score a goal and show a 'Why always me?' T-shirt in Monday's Manchester derby.

“Maybe I am the only man in football who trusts Mario,” he told reporters. “But in this game I think, yes, you can trust him.

“Mario as usual is training well.

“In one game he can score two or three goals – this is the manager’s problem. Mario has apologised to me for the red card at Arsenal, yes. He has been training well.”
