The Arsenal skipper looked to be cruising to the Golden Boot but the Manchester United striker has crept to within one goal of the Gunner with three games left to play
Just weeks ago Robin van Persie looked to be running away with the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, but the outstanding form of Wayne Rooney has forced the England international into the reckoning for the prize.
The Arsenal striker has almost single-handedly saved the Gunners' season by firing them into the Champions League places scoring at nearly a goal a game.

Since last month the Dutchman has lost his touch in front of goal, scoring just once in his last seven games and has not found the net from open play since March 12 against Newcastle.
This has allowed Rooney back into the race and he now trails Van Persie by just a single goal after a great run of form which has seen him score 13 goals in nine games.
His goals have fired Manchester United above Manchester City in the Premier League table and have given Sir Alex Ferguson’s side an excellent chance of winning their 20th top flight title.
The race is poised with the Arsenal skipper on 27 goals and the Red Devils striker on 26, so Goal.com wants to know who you think will be the winner of this year’s Golden Boot?
As both teams need goals to secure their objectives for the season, both players will have plenty of motivation to find the net. But who will triumph?
