Aston Villa defender James Collins could be offered a move to Swansea City this summer, according to The Daily Mirror.

The Wales international signed for Villa in 2009 from West Ham but is about to enter the final year of his contract, and Swans manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly considering a £5 million bid for the centre-back.

Villa have had a lacklustre season so far and are currently only five points above the relegation zone in 15th place, with boss Alex McLeish coming under fire for perceived negative tactics.

Swansea, meanwhile, have surpassed expectations after promotion and are now 11th in the Premier League, having won plaudits over the course of the season for their attractive style of play.

The Swans have paired Wales international centre-back Ashley Williams with 20-year-old Steven Caulker, on loan from Tottenham, for most of the season and could therefore look for a more long-term solution in the form of Williams' international team-mate Collins when the youngster returns to White Hart Lane.

The move would not be without controversy, however, with the 28-year-old having begun his career at rivals Cardiff City.
