thumbnail Hello,

The Italian concedes that it will be hard to prise the Croatian away from White Hart Lane after Spurs' chairman, Daniel Levy, rejected several offers from Chelsea last summer

Roberto Mancini has described Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric as "one of the best in the Premier League" with Manchester City beginning to look towards the summer transfer window.

The Spurs midfielder did not sign a new contract after admitting a desire to leave the club for Chelsea last summer and City could use the uncertainty over Harry Redknapp's future as a ploy to convince the Croatian to move north.

"Luka Modric is an outstanding footballer, a great player,” Mancini told The Sun.

"He is definitely one of the best in the Premier League.

"But it is by no means easy to get him because he plays for a big club, Tottenham. It is unlikely that they would let him leave.

"We are lucky to have another great player from these parts in Edin Dzeko.

"I have worked with quite a few players from these parts — not just Croatians, but Bosnians, Serbs and Montenegrins.

"I have many friends among them and I am very proud of it, they are really something special and they mostly play with invention and creativity."

Mancini spent the early part of this week visiting Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina – a holy site for Roman Catholics – to relax ahead of an increasingly tricky title race.

"You can really fill your batteries here,” the former Inter coach continued.

"Millions of people come here and they leave as better people.

"Faith has helped me and helps me a lot in life. I cannot say that it helped me in my playing and coaching career because the Lord has more important things to do."
