The Red Devils defender admits that his side had a touch of good fortune when referee Michael Oliver decided not to award a spot-kick at Old TraffordManchester United defender Jonny Evans has acknowledged his side were a little lucky with the controversial penalty decision in their 1-0 Premier League victory over Fulham.
Wayne Rooney's first-half goal moved the reigning champions three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League but Sir Alex Ferguson's side struggled to put the finishing touches on a display which included the majority of possession.
The Northern Ireland international told Sky Sports: "It’s a great result for us but we were a bit disappointed with the performance. We’ve managed to grind out a 1-0 victory and it puts us top of the league again.
"It would be nice to get more goals but looking back on the game we’re just delighted to get the three points after the performance we put in wasn’t up to our usual standard.
Manchester United are 4/11 with Paddy Power to retain their Premier League title this season.
"The last home game against West Brom we had to wait till about the 35-minute mark but it was similar today in that we had to be patient to get the goal and it was just unfortunate that we didn’t manage to go on and get another couple of goals.
"Yeah you have a quick look to the referee. He’s waved it away but having seen it back again I think he could’ve given a penalty for it," he said of Michael Carrick's questionable tackle on Danny Murphy. "Yeah, I suppose so [the win came with a touch of good fortune]."
The central defender also praised the performance of Pavel Pogrebnyak, adding: "It was good. I haven’t really seen much about him. He’s managed to score a few goals since he signed in January. It was a tough battle, he’s up there on his own and he put a good shift in."
Speaking on the impact this match has had on the title race, Evans stated:"We just play our own game and keep concentrating, picking up points. We’ve got a good record away from home and obviously when we play at home we expect to get the three points and we managed to do that tonight."
