The Napoli striker’s agents were believed to be in London on Friday discussing a proposed £30 million transfer to Stamford Bridge, which would appear to have been sanctioned by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
Cavani first came to the attention of top clubs during the 2010 World Cup with Uruguay, and since then his reputation has soared as he took his goal tally to 26 goals for the season at the weekend.
The Italian outfit have maintained their stance that it would take a huge amount of money to prise him away from them, but sources say he could be tempted by a big money move to England.
Another side who have been watching the striker’s progress are Liverpool. The Reds are rumoured in some quarters to be losing patience with £35m man Andy Carroll and it has been speculated that they will look to offload him in order to finance a deal for Cavani, so they can partner him with his international compatriot Luis Suarez.
Teams from across Europe, including Real Madrid, Inter and Bayern Munich, have also shown a keen interest in the hitman.
