England international looks for 11th goal in eight games in all competitions while Liverpool look to reach FA Cup semi-finals for the 20th time in their history
It’s a weekend of big games across the country as teams square off in the sixth round of the FA Cup and the Premier League finishing line looms large as the countdown to the end of the season is on.After being knocked out of the Europa League by Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, Manchester United now only have the Premier League to focus on and will have struggling Wolves in their sights as they’ll look to extend their lead at the top of the table.
While at the other end of the league Wigan are looking desperate and need to start winning points sooner rather than later. Their performance in the second-half against Norwich last week was an improvement but they’ll need to up their game against Roy Hodgson’s impressive West Brom side.
In the FA Cup, Everton will also be looking to bounce back against Sunderland following their drubbing in the Merseyside derby earlier in the week. Martin O’Neill’s side will be without key players Lee Cattermole and Stephane Sessegnon which the Toffees will look to take advantage off.
Meanwhile Bolton will travel to Tottenham as Owen Coyle’s side look to reach the semi-finals of the cup for the second year in a row despite their poor league form. Spurs aren’t on a good run themselves but will the lure of silverware re-ignite their season after stalling recently?
Chelsea will be on cloud nine after their win in the Champions League over Napoli in midweek and they could be forgiven for taking their eye off the ball this weekend against Leicester. It could be a potential banana skin for the Blues so Roberto Di Matteo must ensure his players are fully focused on the task in hand as City won’t roll over in their trip to Stamford Bridge.
Finally Liverpool and Stoke clash at Anfield. The Potters like Bolton are looking to reach their second semi-final in a row. While Liverpool are hoping to add another trophy to their cabinet after winning the League Cup last month which would ease the pressure on manager Kenny Dalglish after their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League were dented by a poor run of results.
