Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson watches Hazard on scouting trip in France

The Scot was in attendance as Lille faced Lyon in Ligue 1 on Saturday evening, and was believed to be scouting the Belgian who has expressed an interest in moving to England

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson attended Lyon's home victory over Lille on Saturday night, with the focus of his attentions thought to be on Eden Hazard.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a number of Europe’s top sides, including Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona, and now the Red Devils are seemingly also in the frame after Sir Alex was spotted by television cameras at Stade Gerland.

Last season’s Ligue 1 Player of the Year showed interest in a move to Tottenham last month, appearing to rule out a move to a side with stronger competition for places.

Hazard also sparked a frenzy of interest earlier this year when he revealed that England would be his preferred destination if he leaves Lille in the summer.

And when informed of Sir Alex being in attendance and yawning after Lisandro Lopez's goal, Hazard told Orange TV at half-time: "I didn't know he was here. Maybe he's tired!"

Goal.com exclusively revealed last month that the Red Devils' Premier League rivals Chelsea had pulled out of the race for the Belgian's signature.

United have long been linked with a move for a creative midfielder and seemingly came close to securing a deal for Inter star Wesley Sneijder in the summer before talks broke down, reportedly due to the Dutch international's lofty wage demands.

Despite Hazard allegedly being the main reason the Scot was in attendance in France, it has also been suggested that Sir Alex could have been running the rule over Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, as well as Lille midfielder Mathieu Debuchy.

Lyon won the game at Stade Gerland 2-1 with Alexandre Lacazette and Lopez on the scoresheet for the hosts prior to Aurelien Chedjou pulling one back for Rudi Garcia's side.
