Carlos Tevez was given a motivational pep talk by Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini this week as he stepped up his return to fitness.

Goal.com revealed on Wednesday that Tevez has lost half a stone since returning to Manchester last month and made his first public appearance in a City shirt on Tuesday night as he scored for the reserve team against Bolton.

Hours earlier, Tevez had met with Mancini and during the meeting the Italian praised the 28-year-old’s improved attitude and fitness following his three-month exile in Argentina.

Even Mancini is believed to be surprised by Tevez’s work ethic and how quickly the spat between the pair has settled down since the player’s public apology last month.

Tevez was given a good reception by City fans on Tuesday night and endeared himself further to supporters by personally apologising after the game for not having time to sign autographs.

He is back training with the first-team and pencilled in for a return to the squad for the clash against Chelsea on March 21.

Tevez has been working on a personal training regime with City’s conditioning coach, Ivan Carminati, working on his strength in the gym and doing extra running as he looks to build towards match fitness.

The next stage of his comeback is likely to be with a City XI when they take on Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in a friendly on Wednesday.

Tevez fell out with Mancini after he refused to warm-up during the Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich in September and has not since featured for the club.

But since apologising he has been told he will be considered for a return for the Premier League leaders as soon as he is match fit.
