thumbnail Hello,

The Baggies manager admits he may try to sign the midfielder again in the summer although he expects competition for his signature

West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson says that he is still keen on bringing Craig Gardner to the Hawthorns, if he decides to leave Sunderland.

The Black Cats travel to the Hawthorns on Saturday in the Premier League giving Hodgson the chance to have a closer look at the midfielder he tried to sign in January.

The former Aston Villa and Birmingham player was unsettled after making his move from the Midlands however since the appointment of Martin O'Neill as the Sunderland manager, Gardner has fought his way into the team scoring some memorable goals along the way.

Hodgson told the Daily Express: "The idea was mooted originally because he was very unhappy up there apparently and wanted to get back to Birmingham.

"While talks were taking place at the beginning of the transfer window, Craig got back into the team, started playing well and scoring goals."

Despite this Hodgson admitted he may renew his interest in Gardner in the summer, although he conceded he may face competition for the midfielder.

He continued: "I don't know whether he is still happy there or if he has desires to come back to the Midlands.

"If he does want to move back I am sure we will be one of the clubs interested in him."
