With stars like Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye both available after respective absences the Magpies boss has revealed his joy at having an almost full squad to pick from

Alan Pardew has spoken of his delight at being able to pick his first team stars again after stating that Newcastle United suffered in the absence of key players.

With significant spells out for Demba Ba, Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye, Pardew has struggled to field a side strong enough to continue the push for European football.

During the absence of these players the Magpies have suffered heavy defeats to Tottenham and Fulham in the Premier League as well as being knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Brighton.

Yet the manager still thinks that his team are on the right track to challenge for fifth place in the league and an all important Europa League spot, especially now he has his star players back.

“Now I have my strongest squad to pick from since Man United,” Pardew told The Chronicle.

“We have come through the period without our iconic players, with some fantastic results.

“We are hurt but we’re still in a great position. We’re looking forward.

“With everything said and done, that’s got to be the objective on Saturday night – to be fifth in the table with a win. That’s what we will work on between now and Saturday."

Newcastle's next game is against a Wolves side without a manager since the sacking of Mick McCarthy, and Pardew believes that his side's home form is playing a big role in their lofty position in the league so far.

“We are still disappointed with the Tottenham result and I’ve seen that on the training ground this week.

“More importantly we have two home games. Our home form is good, we’ve won our last three and our home form is strong.”

With Tiote returning after the Ivory Coast's defeat in the final of the African Cup of Nations, Pardew claims that the midfielder has made his presence known on the training field.

“Everybody is fit. Cheick has come back on the training ground and lifted everything,” he commented.

“That’s because of the way he trains. One or two have felt his presence! That’s in a good way!”
