The Irish defender believes the striker who arrived in England in the January window has what it takes to succeed, following his dream debut
The Irishman is impressed by the impact Pogrebnyak has made in his short time at Fulham and feels there is more to come from the Russian forward.
“He [Pogrebnyak] made the exact impact we wanted him to make [against Stoke],” he told the clubs official website.
“In the couple of days training before the game you could see that he is the type of striker that will come and keep the ball then spin and get in the box and score goals."
The 29-year-old will need to fill the void left at Craven Cottage by Bobby Zamora's transfer to Queens Park Rangers. Kelly is certain he has all the attributes to become Fulham's new target man in attack.
"He’s the type of player that you can play the ball up to and he can bring in the likes of Damien [Duff], the wingers and Clint [Dempsey], in off the wings and let them link up and not lose the ball.
"That’s exactly what we needed and if he can continue on from the start he made against Stoke, I’m sure he will be fantastic for us."
