Manchester City confirm Carlos Tevez did not train with rest of squad on Wednesday

The Argentine striker was not included in the Citizen's Europa League squad, and was thus not permitted to join in with the rest of the players

Manchester City have confirmed the real reasons behind Carlos Tevez's absence from training on Wednesday morning.

The rebel striker, who arrived back in Manchester on Tuesday in an attempt to salvage his City career failed to meet up with the rest of the squad, ahead of Thursdays Europa League match against Porto.

The club confirmed to Goal.com that Tevez missed training due to his ineligibility to face the Portuguese side in the Europa League tie. He did however, undergo extensive physical and fitness examination upon his arrival at Carrington. The training session included only players thought to be in contention for the last 32 knockout match at Estádio do Dragão.

After spending just over an hour at the training complex and with no sign of Roberto Mancini, Tevez left, with his next meeting with the City boss thought to have been scheduled for next week.

Having been in Argentina for over four months without the permission of Mancini or the club, the striker has been set to return for the Citizens and aid them in their all-important title challenge.

Tevez has publically expressed his desire to return to Manchester, after he told Fox Sports: "If it's true [that Mancini would welcome me back], of course I like that, if it's [meant] for the media, no".

"I can imagine myself going on to the field and I'm going to have to be brilliant [to win over the critics]. It's not going to be easy for me or the fans. We have had arguments before; we almost came to blows last season [but] he's [Mancini] a winner and so am I."

Despite the publicity surrounding the case, both manager and player are seemingly ready to put their feud behind them, as Manchester City look to secure their first Premier League title.
