Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone out for rest of season as he undergoes second ankle operation

The 25-year-old is said to have progressed well since the first bout of surgery but needs a second procedure later this week with, potentially, England's Euro 2012 squad in mind

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone is set to undergo a second bout of surgery on Friday as he looks to recover from an ankle injury.

The former Derby County man has missed most of Spurs' impressive season, making just two appearances in the Premier, with Scott Parker and Luka Modric cementing themselves as Harry Redknapp's first choice midfielder partnership.

However, with a second spell on the sidelines beckoning because of surgery, the midfielder is hopeful of a return before the start of next season and Spurs' pre-season.

Speaking on Twitter, Huddlestone said: "Thanks for msgs [sic]! My season is over b4 its even started, operation friday!! Main objective is to make sure I'm 100% for pre season."

The club also released a statement on the England international's situation, claiming that he has made good initial progress, but confirmed more surgery is required.

The statement read: "Tom Huddlestone will undergo a second stage of surgery on Friday to further his recovery following ankle surgery at the end of last year.

"The midfielder has progressed well since his initial surgery, with the specialist determining that the anticipated reconstruction of a lateral ankle ligament is the next step towards the England international making a return to full fitness."

Huddlestone has managed just three games for Spurs this season, two of them coming in the Premier League and one in the Europa League.
