Alan Curbishley has emerged as Wolves top target as they look to appoint a new manager this week, according to the Guardian.
The former Charlton boss is thought to be interested in the challenge of keeping the Midlands side in the Premier League and is set for talks with chairman Steve Morgan.
Curbishley, 54, has been out of work since leaving West Ham United in 2008, despite being linked with various jobs, including Aston Villa last summer. Although the resounding favourite for the role, Steve Bruce and Neil Warnock are also thought to be in the running.
The Wolves board are believed to hold Curbishley in high regard, with owner and chairman Steve Morgan quoted as saying: "He's got a great track record, he's been there and done that before and he's exactly the calibre of person that we're looking for."
With only three wins in their last twenty two games, Wolves are in desperate need of an experienced leader.
"There are lots of talented people around in and out of jobs that could potentially do jobs like this. But I don't think it's a job for a novice," Jez Moxey, the club's chief executive, told reporters.
Curbishley's top flight experience whilst at Charlton has seen him pull ahead as front-runner, and retain his place as the bookies favourite.
