Tottenham wideman Gareth Bale has hailed the arrival of Louis Saha at the club, insisting the French striker is of “world class” calibre.

The 33-year-old joined the north London outfit in a surprise deadline day move from Everton, and grabbed a debut brace in Spurs’ 5-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

His Welsh team-mate has now backed Saha to provide a “real boost” to Tottenham’s title chances this season, with Harry Redknapp’s side just seven points behind league leaders Manchester City.

"He played fantastic. We all know what he's capable of, we've played against him year after year," Bale told Spurs TV Online.

"He's always been a threat against us and to have him on our team now is a real boost. He's a quality player, scored two goals and thoroughly deserved them.

"He's shown in training already that he's a world class player, he's played at the highest level and we're delighted to have him."
