‘Carlos Tevez could end up winning Manchester City the Premier League title’ - Former player Nicky Summerbee

The 40-year-old has conceded fans are unlikely to give the Argentine a warm welcome back to the club after his prolonged absence, but feels his on-field impact could prove vital

Former Manchester City midfielder Nicky Summerbee believes Carlos Tevez’s return to the club could prove to be a decisive moment in the Premier League title race.

Tevez has was due to return to the club on Tuesday after a prolonged spell in Argentina and the ex-midfielder believes that fans could still be won over by the forward if he can manage to replicate his goalscoring form of old on the pitch.

“I don’t think the City fans are going to give him the warmest of receptions," Summerbee told talkSPORT.

"But if you can get Tevez anywhere near the form he was in before all these problems, it is another quality striker who can get Man City to win the Premier League.

“You can't support Tevez at all. Everything he has done doesn't look good and not everyone is going to welcome him with open arms but when he gets on a football pitch he works his socks off and hopefully he can make things happen – if he gets on the pitch."

Blues boss Roberto Mancini has refused to rule out the possibility of Tevez playing representing the club for the first time since his bust-up during City’s Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich back in September.
