Tottenham defender Ledley King is hoping to secure a new deal at White Hart Lane, whilst avoiding any pay-as-you-play scenario as a result of his fitness demands, according to The Sun.

The centre-back has a condition in his knees that prevents him from playing more than two full games a week and also affects his inclusion in the team’s training regime.

King’s contract runs out in the summer and has made just 11 starts this season for Spurs, with club manager Harry Redknapp insisting he would have to make at least 20 to earn a new deal.

The 31-year-old admits he cannot guarantee this, but maintains he will give it everything to make sure he gets as many games under his belt as he can before the season’s conclusion in May.

"I've left it between my agent and the chairman,” King told reporters.

"As yet I have not heard anything. I'm just trying to play as many games as I can and we will see where that takes me."
