Wolves owner Steve Morgan will look to Steve Bruce or Alan Cubrishley to save his club from relegation according to The Mirror.Wolves sacked Mick McCarthy on Monday, having not won in eleven Premier League games and losing their last four in a row.
Their poor form has seen them drop into the bottom three with only 13 games remaining, and Morgan felt McCarthy’s time was up.
“Mick and I have had several conversations in recent weeks,” he said.
“The decision was taken extremely regretfully but results have not been good enough.
“Wolves have historically been one of the great clubs in English football. Hanging around the bottom few places is not what this club is about.”
It is thought that Wolves may look for a short-term appointment until the end of the season, and then make a further decision once their Premier League status is decided.
Bruce, who was sacked by Sunderland in November, still lives nearby in Warwickshire and could be ready to step in, having watched Wolves live recently.
Meanwhile Curbishley has not managed a team in four years after being sacked by West Ham United, a matter over which he subsequently won a constructive dismissal case.
On Curbishley, Morgan added: “He’s got a great track record. He’s been there and done that before and he’s exactly the type of calibre of person we are looking for.”
Brian McDermott of Reading, and former Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock are also believed to be in contention, but Morgan wants someone with a proven Premier League record.
