Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne is expected to be sidelined for up to eight weeks after fracturing his collarbone during his side’s 1-0 defeat against former club Manchester City at Villa Park on Sunday.
Former City captain Dunne landed awkwardly after an aerial challenge with opposing goalkeeper Joe Hart and will now undergo an operation in Birmingham today on his right clavicle.
A club statement confirmed: "Richard Dunne sustained a fracture to his right clavicle in the game against Manchester City.
"He will undergo an operation in Birmingham. It is anticipated that he will be sidelined for up to eight weeks."
In a positive note for Villa, Chris Herd returned to full training on Monday having recovered from an ankle ligament injury which has left him out of action since December.
He will be available for the game against Wigan on February 25.
