Liverpool sponsors Standard Chartered admit disappointment at Luis Suarez's refusal to shake Patrice Evra's hand

The bank pays the Anfield outfit £20 million per year, but have revealed they discussed their concerns with the club in a very robust conversation after the game at Old Trafford

Liverpool's shirt sponsors Standard Chartered have revealed that they were "very disappointed" by Luis Suarez’s refusal to shake Patrice Evra’s hand before the 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Saturday.

It was the striker’s first start since his eight-game ban for racially abusing the left-back and with tensions high ahead of the game, the bank felt they were forced to intervene.

The Uruguayan and manager Kenny Dalglish apologised the following day for the striker’s actions.

"We were very disappointed by Saturday's incident and have discussed our concerns with the club” a statement read, with a source claiming that: "It was a very robust conversation."

The bank pays the club £20 million per year to sponsor the club after being attracted by its large Asian supporter base.

The news comes after it was announced that the UK government will host a summit in the near future on the issue of racism in football following both this and the incident involving John Terry and Anton Ferdinand.
