West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie hailed his team’s performance in the Black Country derby as they prevailed 5-1 against bitter rivals Wolves.

The Nigerian international scored a hat-trick as the Baggies managed to create eight points between themselves and the relegation zone and he believes the team can push on for a top ten finished by the end of season.

He told Sky Sports: “It was a very big result for us, a great team performance, and we know this game means a lot to our fans.

“The most important thing is to keep proving to our fans that although we have ups and downs we are a team that can respond to difficult situations. We need to improve our home performances and then we can finish in the top 10.”

Odemwingie paid tribute to his team’s fans and admitted that he and his colleagues wanted to make sure they got all three points as they knew how much the result meant to the Albion faithful.

He added: “We know how much games like this mean to our fans, we get messages from them all through the week so it's great to win it and we made sure we prepared properly."
