Roy Hodgson: Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is a victim of his own success
The West Brom boss has backed his under-pressure opposite number ahead of the two side's upcoming clash in the Black Country derby, saying he has raised the bar

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson has backed under-fire Wolves counterpart Mick McCarthy, hailing the work he has done at Molineux.
Wolves currently sit just a point outside the relegation zone in 17th after enduring a difficult campaign to date so far.
But former Liverpool boss Hodgson believes McCarthy does not get the credit he deserves for raising expectations at the club.
"Mick has done a magnificent job at Wolves - and so has the club owner [Steve Morgan]," Hodgson said.
"Mick took them up and then stayed in the Premier League but then people want to see you move on even further and the expectations go up.
"Unfortunately when you bring teams up, the barrier gets raised and, if you don't bring the players in to match that, then it can be very difficult."
Wolves fans have publicly called for McCarthy's dismissal in recent weeks, and the former Republic of Ireland manager is many bookmakers' favourite to be the next top-flight manager sacked.
However, Hodgson feels many overlook McCarthy's contribution to making Wolves an established Premier League side.
He continued: "The world of football is full of people who do good jobs taking their teams up and then losing their job because they can't do as well in the league above.
"But Wolves are a very competitive team and will battle right to the end of the season."
