Newcastle winger Sylvain Marveaux admits he could be out for the rest of the Premier League campaign after struggling to get back to full fitness following a groin injury.
The Frenchman has not featured for the Magpies first team since November, whilst the injury in question has since required surgery.
And Marveaux accepts that he faces an uphill battle to get back to full fitness in time for the end of the season.
“I don’t know if I will play again this season, because I won’t train for two more months," Marveaux told the Chronicle
“I’m not thinking of playing again. I want to do it step by step. You are always disappointed when you have a big injury like that
“It’s not the first one for me, so I just think there are more important things in life.
“I have four years left on my contract here, so I just want to be on the pitch soon, and to play for the team and the fans, and show what I can do."
Marveaux became one of a number of French signings made my manager Alan Pardew in the summer and, given Newcastle's run of impressive form, the former Rennes man is glad to see his countrymen enjoying life so much on Tyneside.
"I’m happy to see the team doing well," he added. "Yohan [Cabaye], Hatem [Ben Arfa] and Gabby [Obertan] are my friends. Demba [Ba]’s doing great.
“I’m happy every time they play well."
The 25-year-old has also been impressed by the impact that January signing Papiss Cisse has had after the Senegalese striker netted the winner in a 2-1 debut victory over Aston Villa.
He continued: “I hope Papiss Cisse will also keep playing like this and scoring. We are doing everything we can to make him feel welcome here.
“Any player who scores on his debut like that must be delighted."
