Wigan new boy Jean Beausejour is confident that the side have enough quality in their ranks to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

After drawing against Everton the January transfer from Birmingham believes he saw the quality needed to pick up points from teams and to climb up the table ensuring they stay away from the drop zone.

The Chilean is keen to avoid the same fate that he endured last season whilst at Birmingham, claiming that he can see a bright future at Wigan Athletic.

"I feel happy since arriving at Wigan and I'm very confident about the rest of the season," the 27-year-old told the Wigan Evening Post.

"The feeling around the club is good, very positive, and I firmly believe the future of the club is bright.”

Beausejour was the man who put the cross in which led to Phil Neville’s own goal securing a point for the Latics, but even though much is owed to fortune for the draw the midfielder is keen to take inspiration from the performance.

"I got lucky, it wasn't my best cross of the game, but it caught a deflection and the goalkeeper came up with a 'blooper',” Beausejour admitted when talking about the own goal.

"I was generally pleased with my crosses, though. It is my main line of work and Roberto has told me he needs me to put as many in as possible.

"To be honest, I thought the whole team played well against Everton, but that's no good if we don't win.

"Consistency is what we are all aiming towards, and hopefully that will come."

"And if we can start Saturday's game at Bolton the same way we finished the Everton game, I think we have a big chance of getting a win - which would move us closer to safety.”
