David Luiz has claimed that he is happy to take the good with the bad after coming under praise and criticism whilst at Chelsea and stated that he is only worried about working hard for the club.

The 24-year-old’s playing style was described as akin to being "controlled by a 10-year-old on a PlayStation" by pundit Gary Neville because of the defender’s eccentric performances in the heart of the Blues’ defence.

These erratic performances have worked for and against the player, with his charging runs earning him praise, but the defender maintains that his only focus is working hard for Andre Villas-Boas’ team.

"I have been working in the same way as always, training at my best level,” Luiz told the club’s official.

"Sometimes you get criticism, like I did, and recently I have been applauded for my work.

"As long as I can go home and lay down on my bed and have my conscience clear that I am doing an honest job, I am happy.”

Luiz scored on against Manchester United on Sunday, putting his side three goals to the good in the process, which seemingly all but confirmed the victory for the west London outfit, but after Sir Alex Ferguson’s side summoned up an inspired comeback Chelsea came under heavy criticism for letting the three-goal lead slip.

Even though the Brazilian was disappointed with the point he is hoping that his team-mates can put the game behind them and push on to secure Champions League football.

“The main thing is to continue working and maintaining the philosophy that the coach instructs,” he said.

"We have to do this, sometimes we are doing things that are great and not getting the results and sometimes we do things not so good and get the result.

"The main thing is to continue working hard and obviously we are not where we want to be at the moment, not fighting for first place, but we have to keep looking for victories and believe in ourselves until the end.

"There are games we have lost where we could have done better, but we can't change the past, we can only look to the future and know that we can do better and move up positions."
