Theo Walcott hopeful Arsenal’s 7-1 mauling of Blackburn Rovers can kick-start ‘frustrating’ season

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has revealed his delight with the way his team-mates dismantled Blackburn Rovers in their recent 7-1 victory following a run of poor results in the Premier League.

Walcott, along with top-goalscorer Robin van Persie and youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, ran the show against Steve Kean’s men, and, in doing so, temporarily allayed mounting fears that the north London side could miss out on Champions League qualification.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had come under pressure from some sections of the media and fans after his side accumulated just one point from a possible 12 in their previous four league games, but Walcott believes the players are as much to blame when results are not going their way.

"The boss always takes a lot of stick from everyone criticising him, but us players need to look up to him because he's been taking it all," Walcott told the club's official website.

"We are the ones who go out there and put out the performances and sometimes they have not been good enough."

"There are so many world-class players in the dressing room, so it is disappointing when we come back from Bolton with a 0-0 draw where we had a lot of chances.

"I has just been one of those frustrating seasons.

"Hopefully a lot of those frustrations came out against Blackburn, where everybody stood up for themselves."

The weekend victory was the Gunners first win in the league in 2012 and Walcott is hoping to build on his display against Steve Kean’s side by continuing to provide service for Robin van Persie to score goals from.

He added: "One of my main jobs as a winger is to get assists. The goals are a secondary thing.

"Some of them against Blackburn were just tap-ins so it was like a goal really. I hope it made Robin's job easy."
