Michael Carrick 'slightly disappointed' Manchester United could only salvage a point in incredible Chelsea comeback

The midfielder believes the Red Devils could have won on any other day, claiming the team fancied their chances of winning the match with plenty of time after the third goal

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick believes the Red Devils should have won their clash with Chelsea on Sunday, despite a miraculous comeback from three goals down.

United fell behind to a Jonny Evans own-goal in the first half after controlling much of the play and then saw Chelsea extend their lead with goals from Juan Mata and David Luiz, early in the second period.

However, the visitors fought back with two penalties from Wayne Rooney and an equaliser in the final 10 minutes coming from the head of Javier Hernandez.

And Carrick admitted feeling disappointed with the draw, despite his side having overcome a three-goal deficit, insisting that United should have perhaps won the game.

Speaking to MUTV, Carrick said: "We were slightly disappointed in the end.

"Obviously, when you're 3-0 down and have your backs against the wall, if someone offers you a point then you'll be happy with that but getting a third goal with a fair bit of the game to go, we fancied ourselves to go on and win it.

"We probably looked like the likelier team to do it. They had a good free-kick but it's a strange feeling in many ways, it was an up and down afternoon and in the end, a point is a point and we can take an awful lot from that game.

"We played well in the first half and created some opportunities. Even when we were 1-0 down at half-time we were a bit stunned and surprised but that's how it was and we had to deal with it.

"It's a credit to the boys, we kept going, kept pushing and kept believing that we could get something out of the game and in the end we have," he added.

"There's a lot of positivity but there's still that little tinge of maybe we could have won it. Maybe that is a bit greedy after being 3-0 down."

The 30-year-old, who has been one of United’s form players recently, also believes the comeback could provide Sir Alex Ferguson’s men with a mental boost in the title race.

"I think other teams who were watching that and seeing us go 3-0 down, they would have been thinking what a good afternoon it has been for them.

"Then for us to come back in the manner we did might give them a little dent and a boost for us."

The general consensus, then, is that Danny Welbeck should be starting up front against France with Ashley Young supporting him. How about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain? Did he do enough to earn a starting role at Euro 2012?

So, that game gave a few players a chance to impress for England. Who did/didn't? Will Welbeck start against France? Or Carroll? Or Defoe?!

Unfortunately for Northern Ireland, they are trailing the Netherlands 4-0 at half-time. Looks like that one's all sewn up then.

We're still getting plenty of Hazard chat on Twitter. A few are now saying that he's not worth the hype, others saying he was brilliant(!?) and others (which I agree with), saying he created much of his own hype. What do you think? Get involved!

Joe Hart has also been giving his thoughts after the Belgium game: "It was a really tough game, a good run out. I thought we played well, [but] we were a little bit bitty at times.

"But, we came through. Obviously there were a lot of changes so it's good to get the result.

"Belgium are a very, very strong side who are going to be really good in the future. Vincent [Kompany] told me about them and said that they were coming good and I totally agree with him."
